New Long-term Care Facility bring TBI Victims closer to Home

July 15th, 2008 · No Comments

A New Long-Term Care Center will help the people of South Dakota live closer to their loved ones who have suffered from traumatic brain injury. Sunrise Villa is a state-sponsored long-term stay facility that will open next month in the Sunset Manor/ Avera area. The facility will house eight beds and will the state’s first ever facility to house those suffering from traumatic brain injury.

The facility is a collaborative effort between South Dakota and Avera Health, which will run the facility. The secretary of the South Dakota Department of Social Services commented on the project, saying that “There has been a need for this in the state for quite some time.”

The facility has added benefit in that it will bring people closer to home and also save money for the state. Usually, private insurance companies take care of the cost of people with brain injuries, but the state is able to pick up the tab through the Medicaid program.

Traumatic brain injury is very serious especially in the United States. These injuries can be avoided if proper care is taken. For more information on how you can protect against unwanted injuries, call the traumatic brain injury lawyers of the Williams Kherkher law firm at 866.950.9000.
